The P2P Support team seeks to enhance the delivery of principled, quality, timely, and predictable collective humanitarian action by providing peer support to Humanitarian Coordinators and Humanitarian Country Teams in field operations. It does this by:

  1. Conducting missions comprised of senior UN and NGO peers to provide tailored peer support to Humanitarian Coordinators and Humanitarian Country Teams on issues impacting the effectiveness of the response.
  2. Sharing good practices gathered from field operations with Humanitarian Coordinators and Humanitarian Country Teams to promote peer to peer learning and facilitating sharing of knowledge.

The P2P Support team supports Humanitarian Coordinators and Humanitarian Country Teams strengthen implementation of the three core Transformative Agenda pillars: leadership, coordination, and accountability to affected people. The team also provides support on some key issues that Humanitarian Coordinators and Humanitarian Country Teams have consistently raised as challenging for collective leadership. These include the Centrality of Protection, Gender Based Violence, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, security management and access, timely delivery of assistance, the Humanitarian-Development Nexus, and localisation.

Governance Structure

The P2P Support team is an independent inter-agency initiative that was initially established as the Senior Transformative Agenda Implementation Team (STAIT) in late 2013 by the IASC Emergency Directors’ Group (EDG).  The project changed its name to the P2P Support team in mid-2017 to reflect the nature of the peer support it provides to Humanitarian Coordinators and Humanitarian Country Teams in the field. The EDG provides overall guidance and direction to the project.
